PTSA Sponsored Programs

The following PTSA sponsored programs are just some of the great opportunities for students, staff and parents to get involved in the Cherry Crest Community.

We are getting programs up and running for the 2011-2012 school year! Please check back for more information about meeting times and locations.

**Please note that due to our temporary location on the Bellewood Campus for 2011-2012, before and after school activities on site will be limited.  Program coordinators are working on alternate locations for many of the most popular programs, and more information will be available on this page or updated through the weekly Cherry Crest Chatter.**

Community Service Club
The Community Service Club spends time each week out in the community helping others in need. Just a few examples of programs we are doing this year include:

• Harvesting for a local organic farm
• Spending time with residents at a local retirement community
• Making blankets to deliver to the Humane Society
• Cleaning up our local park
• Gathering food for families in need.

Staff Appreciation
The Staff Appreciation Committee coordinates a group that focuses on celebrating and thanking the wonderful teachers and staff of Cherry Crest. Parents from one grade participate each month with notes of thanks, treats and a special luncheon to thank the staff for all they do. A special celebration is held each day of the first week of May for National Staff Appreciation Week.

Running Club
 Students K-5, interested staff, parents, and volunteers are welcome at our Running Club meetings! We try to focus on stretching, goal setting, and building endurance, but really we are just a fun club that meets to get or stay healthy outside and enjoy each other’s company.

Green Team
The Cherry Crest Green Team is in year three of the three-year King County Green Schools Program. For the past two years, the Green Team focused on environmental education and improving recycling processes in the school as well as energy consumption.

The result was a dramatic decrease in the amount of garbage produced for pick-up at Cherry Crest, and an increase in the amount of waste that was diverted to the recycling side. This year we will be introducing compostable trays and utensils to the mix.

Reflections

The Cherry Crest PTSA is proud to sponsor the National Arts Recognition & Achievement Program. Students have the opportunity to create and submit works of art in six areas: Dance, Film, Literature, Musical Composition, Photography & Visual Arts.
