Washington State PTA's Focus Day is Monday, February 20. Register to attend this informative and interactive event at our state capitol in Olympia. You will hear speakers from the WSPTA's Advocacy Committee, State Board of Education, OSPI and Governor Inslee's office. You can also join a docent-led tour of the capitol. This is a great introduction to advocacy for you, your student(s) and your family. Learn how you can make an impact!

Come join us on Tues, March 28th for a live discussion in the school cafeteria at 6:30pm with special guests, Jessie Wong (Registered Dietician Nutritionist) and Kristy Fassio (Certified Body Trust Provider, LMHCA). They'll share their thoughts on how to help "picky" eaters eat better, while building positive relationships with food & our bodies. As March is National Nutrition Month, it's the perfect time to learn more about how to help your family eat healthy and prevent eating disorders.

The Sammamish high school robotics team is hosting a FREE robotics camp at Sammamish High school over mid-winter break! This camp will teach your students how to think like an engineer. From designing and programming robots to tackling STEM problem solving, your students will learn introductory coding and engineering skills from a robotics team who has qualified for World Championships. This is for all elementary school students, K-5, and is 100% FREE. It will be during mid-winter break, Tuesday through Friday or from February 21st to 24th. The camp will be at Sammamish High school (100 140th Ave SE Bellevue WA) from 9:00 am to 4:00pm, we ask that students bring lunch, and fill out a form you will be emailed once signing up. Thanks to the hard work of our Cherry Crest Librarian Mrs. Lux, six teams of 4th and 5th grade students competed in the first ever Bellevue Battle of the Books (B.B.O.T.B.). Each team read six Sasquatch Nominee books, created questions for each book and then studied for the competition. Of the six teams, F.B.I. (aka Federal Book Investigators) advanced to represent Cherry Crest against Ardmore, Medina and Woodridge elementary schools. Congratulations to Ardmore Elementary for winning the Final! 11 of the 18 elementary schools in the district participated in this pilot year. We're excited to see this competition continue next year. Thank you BSD Librarians, PTSAs and Administrators for supporting this initiative!

Big ideas start with curiosity: Introducing Theatre33’s STEAM Explorers Program for grades K–5 — a hands-on enrichment program where students learn by building, experimenting, creating, collaborating, and solving real challenges.
|
Students are encouraged to ask questions, try different solutions, learn from mistakes, explain their ideas, and turn imagination into real projects. No previous experience is required — just curiosity and a willingness to explore. Daily two-two hour block classes in the heart of the BelRed Arts District.

Our Annual Volunteer Tea on June 9 was a wonderful celebration of the many volunteers who help make our school community thrive. The morning included coffee, tea, breakfast, flower arranging, and the presentation of our Golden Acorn Awards to volunteers who have gone above and beyond in service to our school. One of the most memorable moments was the volunteer parade through the building, where students lined the halls with handmade signs and cheers of appreciation. It was a heartwarming reminder of the impact our volunteers have every day. Thank you to all who give their time, energy, and talents to support our students and staff!
