Scholastic Book Fair is March 9th-12th!
The Scholastic Book Fair will be held from Monday, March 9th to Friday, March 12th, open during lunch recess and after school. We will also have a special family night on Friday, March 6, where families can come shop the book fair before the PTSA family movie night!

We need many volunteers to help with the setup and tear down of the Book Fair, to run registers and help during lunch recess, after school and during Family Night.

The PTSA is excited to announce the launch of a "Cherry Crest Elementary Parents Group" WhatsApp Community with grade-specific parent groups.

These groups are designed to help the PTSA, CE Reps and room parents connect with other parents in a specific grade.

Joining these groups is completely optional and opt-in only. The groups will not replace our other existing forms of communication. They will not be facilitated by any PTSA member and are meant to be self-serving.

We invite every parent to join and help make this a welcoming and valuable resource for our school community.

Fall is here! Registration for PTSA-sponsored clubs (Art Reflections, Future Problem Solvers, Math Club, Math Challenge, Passport Club, Science Olympiad) opens on Marapod Sept 23. Vendor programs (we’re targeting: Coding, Chess, Soccer, Magic, VEX Robotics) will have open registration from Sept 15–Oct 7 on the PTSA website, with classes starting the week of Oct 14.

Join FPS Club in Fall 2025
Join the Future Problem Solving (FPS) Club at Cherry Crest Elementary! This club empowers students to become creative thinkers and problem solvers.

FPS is an exciting competition where students tackle-real world challenges, brainstorm innovative solutions, and develop critical thinking skills. Students have the choice of competing in Global Issues Problem Solving (GIPS), Scenario Performance (ScP), or Scenario Writing (ScW). Through teamwork and strategic thinking, participants explore unique topics and compete at regional and national level tournaments!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this year’s Walkathon — it was a joyful, high-energy afternoon filled with laughter, color-dabbed smiles, snacks, and games. It was wonderful to see our community come together in support of our school.

Thanks to your generosity, the Walkathon raised over $48,000, bringing our total for Giving Month + Walkathon to $168,000 — just 16% shy of our $200K annual goal.

Movie Night
March 7th from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Cherry Crest Gym/Café, with doors opening at 5:45 PM. Join us for a fun-filled evening featuring a PG-rated movie. Bring a blanket and pillow for comfortable seating, and if possible, bring cash for concessions. Students must be accompanied by an adult, as this is not a drop-off event. Tickets are free but required for headcount. Concessions, including pizza, candy, drinks, and more, will be available for purchase.

Girls on the Run is BACK at Cherry Crest for Spring 2026!
Girls on the Run is coming back to Cherry Crest for the Spring 2026 Season! Girls on the Run is so much more than running. 3rd through 5th grade participants will have fun, make friends, increase their physical activity levels, and learn important life skills.

Meeting twice per week after school, the season lasts 8 weeks and runs from the week of March 23rd through the week of May 18th with a celebratory 5K fun run at Renton Memorial Stadium on Sunday, 5/17, to cap off the season. Meetings take place at Cherry Crest and will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:30-4:15pm.

Congratulations! There were over 80 submissions to the Cherry Crest Library's Annual Pumpkin Book Character/Book Cover Contest. Students in grades K-5 submitted paper pumpkins drawn with their favorite book and/or book character(s) represented on them using pencil, crayon, pen, water color, oil pastels, collages, etc. We have some creative and artistic Chargers! It was a difficult decision.

Global Peace Run Visit on May 9
Cherry Crest Running Club is excited to welcome members of the Sri Chinmoy Oneness Home Peace Run on Tuesday, May 9th during lunch recess.  This global torch relay has teams run through over 100 countries with a simple goal - "to create a feeling of goodwill among peoples of all nations."  Students will hear the runners' message of peace and be able to join them for a few laps around the school track.  Questions? STEM Opportunity for Girls in 3rd-5th Grade
GEMS (Girls Embrace Math and Science) is a math and science competition for girls in the 3rd to 5th grade that will tentatively take place on March 25th, from 9AM to 4PM.

Participants learn to work with each other and approach difficult STEM concepts in a thoughtful, logical way. Activities include robotics, building marshmallow towers, listening to guest speakers in STEM fields, free pizza, and more!

K-2 Author/Illustrator visit coming up March 23rd
On Thursday March 23rd local author/illustrator Ellie Peterson will be presenting to all K-2 classrooms in three separate presentations in the library.  We are lucky enough (thank you BSF!) to have Ellie two years in a row at our school. 

Ellie often specializes in books that focus on science, including the topics of monarch butterflies, honeybees, our seasons and our planet earth.  Some students will also experience an “Eat With Ellie” lunch in the library where they can find out more about what it’s really like to work as an author/illustrator and ask more in-depth questions. This shout-out is for an amazing CE team member, Elena Razmpoosh, Ariana (Kindergarten) & Kiana (Grade 5th) mother. Elena is an integral CE team member for both Kindergarten and Grade-5 and has shown incredible skills in organizing amazing field trips for both grades. Each field trip requires her to make arrangements with vendors, fill out BSD forms and keep teachers in communication, and her skill at executing these tasks are really commendable. Cherry Crest will host the Scholastic Spring Book fair in the library the week of March 3rd-9th.  All proceeds will go towards NEW books for our library.  Back this Year:  Pencil Grams to support our BSD sister-school, Sherwood Forest. *Students can purchase a fun pencil ($1/cash only) to send to a friend or themselves.

Students may purchase books during lunch time and after school from Monday through Thursday. Wednesday the book far will be open until 1 pm and 4-6 for book shopping before Family Engineering Night!

Bellevue Battle of the Books

Bellevue Battle of the Books
Thanks to the hard work of our Cherry Crest Librarian Mrs. Lux, six teams of 4th and 5th grade students competed in the first ever Bellevue Battle of the Books (B.B.O.T.B.).  Each team read six Sasquatch Nominee books, created questions for each book and then studied for the competition.  Of the six teams, F.B.I. (aka Federal Book Investigators) advanced to represent Cherry Crest against Ardmore, Medina and Woodridge elementary schools.  Congratulations to Ardmore Elementary for winning the Final!   11 of the 18 elementary schools in the district participated in this pilot year.  We're excited to see this competition continue next year.  Thank you BSD Librarians, PTSAs and Administrators for supporting this initiative!

Global Peace Run Visits Cherry Crest on Friday, May 20th
The Cherry Crest Running Club is excited to welcome members of the Sri Chinmoy Oneness Home Peace Run on Friday, May 20th during lunch recess.

This global torch relay has teams running through over 100 countries every two years with a simple goal – “to create a feeling of goodwill among peoples of all nations.” Students will hear the runners’ message of peace and can join them for a few laps around the school track.

Running Club has begun!
All students should bring their Walk-a-thon badges back to school this week. Scan your badge one time during lunch recess this week and be entered to win Otter Pops for your class!

Thanks to a Go! Grant from AMPED (https://everykidsports.org/) awarded to Cherry Crest Elementary in 2020, this FREE club will be offered every day at lunch recess (except Wednesdays) at the Cherry Crest track until Friday, June 17. This is an optional activity for students who are welcome to run or walk as much or as little as they wish! Students will earn a running charm for completing 5K, 10K and Half Marathon milestones. Certificates will be presented by Principal Steere or Assistant Principal Stedman to students who complete a Marathon (26.2 miles)! Volunteers are needed to setup the self-scanner, help kids as needed and put everything away at the end. Reusable Utensil Program Starting This Week!
Starting Thursday January 27, we are switching to reusable utensils in the cafeteria, through a grant from Department of Ecology and City of Bellevue!

We estimate this will save more than 47,000 disposable plastic utensils from the landfill in one school year.

Going on Vacation? It is expected that families will schedule their vacations and activities to coincide with the school calendar. We understand that some absences cannot be rescheduled or prevented from overlapping with school. Nonetheless, absences for vacations, sports tournaments, dance competitions, family travel, trips of a lifetime, etc. must be prearranged and approved to be considered excused under district policies (BSD Policy 3122, Procedure 3122P https://bit.ly/3dnFZzI).

School Library Hosts Usborne Book Fair from Dec 6th - Dec 9th
The book fair will be in our school library Monday 12/6-Thursday 12/9. Students will be able to view available items during their checkout time in library class.

Book Fair will be open for purchases during lunch time and after school until 3:15pm Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. On Wednesday it will be open at lunch time and after school until 1:00pm

All proceeds support our Cherry Crest library in the form of new books for students. Come support the Cherry Crest library AND stock up on great books and activities for the Winter Break!

Cherry Crest families are invited to attend monthly virtual meetings hosted by Principal Dusty Steere and PTSA president Reetika Saxena. All chats are online via Microsoft Teams and include information from the principal as well as ample time for questions and comments.

This month we will be joined by our school counselor to discuss mental health supports at school and how to talk with your child about difficult topics such as suicide.

A Reminder about Pre-Arranged Absences
With the holidays approaching, remember that Bellevue School District allows each student 5 pre-arranged absences (PRA) per year. These are excused absences to use for a travel day, a sport or dance competition or longer trip.

If your child will only be missing one or two days, please email cherrycrestattendance@bsd405.org.

If your child will be missing 3 or more days, please submit a pre-arranged absence form at least 2 weeks prior to your trip.

Thank you for including your child’s full name when emailing for any attendance related matters!

High School Volunteers Offer Reading Buddies Program for K-1 Students
A group of local high school students are continuing their work as virtual Reading Buddies this school year – this time with both Kindergarteners and 1st graders!

Each Wednesday they host a Microsoft Teams meeting from 3:00-4:00pm to read with our students. This will include a read-aloud, discussion and comprehension questions, virtual activities like “I Spy,” and small group connection time with other students.
