As we continue our Fundraising efforts this spring with a goal of raising an additional $80,000 to support Cherry Crest Elementary (CCE), we want to introduce someone whose story is a testament to perseverance, education, and community—our incredible Vice Principal, Amy Chu.
Amy’s journey to education wasn’t a straight path. Born to Korean immigrant parents, she grew up in Federal Way, WA, balancing the expectations of two cultures. Her parents ran a Korean video store, catering to other immigrants, and English wasn’t spoken at home. School was a place of independence—her parents, working long hours, couldn’t attend parent-teacher conferences or help with homework. But that independence shaped her into the educator she is today.

“I had to figure out school on my own,” Amy says.

“I learned how to navigate a system that wasn’t built for students and families like me. That experience drives everything I do in education—I want students to feel seen, supported, and capable of success.”
