Curriculum Enhancement

The Curriculum Enhancement Team has been working with teachers to provide additional experiences to our students. Thank you for your generous support to help make these events possible. CE Spotlight of 2021
  • 1st grade students had a virtual visit from The Toy Maker where they learned about Light and Sound
  • 4th grade students had a virtual visit to the Pacific Science Center and learned about the ā€œNight Skyā€
  • 5th grade students enjoyed an Orienteering field trip with Eric Bone from Meridian Geographics and had a field trip right before the winter break to the MOHAI where they embarked on a scavenger hunt provided by the museum and checked out the special ā€œDa Vinciā€ exhibit
Upcoming for 2022
  • 1st grade students will have a visit from Animal Encounter and meet some animals from Australia
  • 2nd grade students will have visits from The Toy Maker
  • 4th grade students will experience an ā€œOregon Trails Adventureā€ field trip

Curriculum Enhancement (CE) works with teachers to bring in the best guest speakers, scientists, laboratory activities, performers, and musicians for enhanced learning opportunities. All are 100% funded by YOU, our parents; through generous donations to our fundraisers such as the Read-a-thon. Support PTSA fundraisers ā€“ they pay for these wonderful activities.

Parent Teacher Student Associations (PTSAs) have the primary goal of advocating for ALL children.Ā  While Cherry Crest PTSA focuses efforts at the school and district level, Washington State PTA leaders guide advocacy efforts at the state level.

Please join us at our Cherry Crest PTSA General Membership meeting, Tuesday January 11th, via Microsoft Teams.

We invite all families and community members to participate (you donā€™t need to be a PTSA member to attend).

Our speaker this month is Diana Bastien, Clinical Psychologist with Outpatient Psychiatry & Behavioral Medicine at Seattle Childrenā€™s. Dr. Bastien will be talking about anxiety and how to help kids adjust socially and emotionally to in-person learning.

Parent and Caregiver Education Sessions
Diana Bastien, Clinical Psychologist at Seattle Childrenā€™s Hospital, will speak about anxiety at our virtual PTSA General Meeting tonight (Tuesday, January 11).

A speaker from Sound Discipline will join us to talk about Positive Discipline on Friday, February 4 at 8:30am.

Cherry Crest School Counselor, Mykela Fantone, will speak about the SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) Curriculum at our virtual PTSA General Meeting on Tuesday, March 8 at 7:00pm.

PTSA Seeks One More Person for Nominating Committee
The current Executive Committee of the PTSA seeks individuals to form a Nominating Committee. The to fill open Executive Committee positions for the 2022-2023 school year. This limited commitment takes place in January and involves attending 2-3 meetings.

An ideal Nominating Committee member is:

ā€¢ Someone with connections to many different families within our school across grades.
ā€¢ Comfortable reaching out to other parents for conversation.
ā€¢ Able to meet with other members of the nominating committee (in person or via Microsoft Teams).

Parent Information night for rising Kindergarten Families
To learn about the amazing Kindergarten experience at Cherry Crest Elementary, please join our VirtualĀ Parent Information Night tonight, Tuesday, January 11th at 6:00pm.

If you live outside of the Cherry Crest attendance boundaries and want to be considered for enrollment, you must complete andĀ submit an Open Transfer application by Friday, January 14th at 4:30 pm. Library Updates and Volunteer training

Library Updates and Volunteer training
If you are interested in becoming a library volunteer, Mrs. Lux is offering more training sessions this month.Ā 

THANK YOU so much for the current library volunteers who have been coming in to help check-in books, shelve books and help during class checkout time.

It makes such a world of difference for our librarian to be able to focus on students: helping them find books, making suggestions and answering questions they have during class time without tying up the line.

The PTSA is grateful for all those who spent time and energy clearing the snow at school.Ā  Special thanks to Office Manager Ms. Connie Kramer who along with her daughter Nicole, son Derek and his friend Jamaal, came in on Monday to provide a head start.Ā  Our heartfelt thanks as well to Head Custodian Ms. Lupita for her relentless efforts Tuesday morning to prepare for studentsā€™ first day back.Ā  THANK YOU!
