Welcome Message from PTSA Presidents

On behalf of the Cherry Crest PTSA, I wanted to welcome you to the ‘22-’23 school year. If you’re anything like me, you were probably figuring out lunches at the last minute and wiping away a tear or two (our tears, not our kids’) as you sent your child(ren) on their way to another year of growing up. And of course, the prerequisite first day of school pictures :).

We’re really excited about this upcoming school year and hope you are too!
The PTSA focuses on 3 pillars and you’ll continue to hear these themes in the activities and programs we’ll plan (sneak peek of upcoming events via the PTSA calendar):
  • Academic rigor and student excellence
  • Family connection and community
  • Health and well-being
From events like the Spelling Bee, Family Stem Night, Grade-level Dinners, a Used Book Fair, and much more – we hope to bring the community closer together and most importantly, enrich the experience of our students and families.
New this year, we are introducing grade-level PTSA ambassadors, who can help answer your questions and connect you with other families in your grade. They’re a great resource for new and veteran Cherry Crest families alike. If you are looking for volunteer opportunities and a way to make a difference in your child’s school, we’d love to hear from you. Thank you to all those who have already signed up to volunteer!
We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming school event and the general PTSA meeting on September 29th at 7pm. Everyone is welcome to attend and all members can vote.
If there’s anything we can help with, don’t hesitate to reach out. Welcome to the ‘22-’23 Cherry Crest School Year – it’s going to be great!

First PTSA General Meeting Sept 29th 7pm on TEAMS

The PTSA is devoted to the educational success of your children and the promotion of family engagement in schools. We work with the school administration, teachers, and families, like yours, to enrich your student’s experience at Cherry Crest.

Historically, PTSAs have fought and were able to mandate the creation of Kindergarten classes, child labor laws, mandatory immunization, arts in education, and much more. Here at Cherry Crest, we are focused on Comm(Unity) and enabling more 1:1 attention in the classroom, improving education outcomes with enriching clubs like Math, Geography, Reading, driving connection between families, and much more.

While Cherry Crest is an outstanding school, it’s only with parent involvement (members, volunteers, and donations) that we are able to bring that special je ne sais quoi. So, we highly encourage you to participate in the PTSA.Control of Board nominations, money spent, and activities is directed by all PTSA members at the school.

All families can participate with the PTSA.

Our first General PTSA meeting is on Sept 29th at 7pm, via Teams. We encourage you to attend this first virtual meeting as a way to learn more and see how you’d like to get involved.  You can also email President@cherrycrest-ptsa.org with any questions about the PTSA.

Level 1 – PTSA Leader

Join the board of the PTSA or be a Chair of a program or event.

Joining the PTSA as a Board Member or Event Chair allows you to be involved in planning meetings, leading events, and brainstorming ways to improve the PTSA on a day-to-day basis.

It also allows you to follow projects of interest to you and make your wants, reality (this author is organizing Family Engineering night for instance)

Level 2 – Involved PTSA member

Join the PTSA for $12 annually.

There is no commitment, but joining the PTSA gives you the option to attend the PTSA general meetings and vote on budget, direction, nominees, etc.  This allows you to have an active voice in what happens at the school.

Level 3 – PTSA Volunteer

Volunteer with the PTSA.

You want to be more involved in your child’s education and want to see them greet you excitedly as you volunteer in their school, but you can’t dedicate as much time to be a PTSA leader or paid active member. No worries – fill out our Volunteer form and let us know what you can do and we’ll match you with upcoming volunteer opportunities – in the classroom, at upcoming events, or whatever your interest.

Level 4 – PTSA Observer

Attend PTSA general meetings – no commitment.

Everyone is welcome to attend, listen and learn from all PTSA meetings.  Our organization is always open to ideas and thoughts from all parents, no matter if you are a member. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to vote on any specific items.

Bridle Trails State Park - Public Lands Day - October 1st

A fun opportunity to give back to this treasured park with friends & family!

Together we’ll remove invasives displacing native understory plants and trees in our 482-acre park.

WE’LL MEET IN THE EVENT/PICNIC AREA AT 9AM SHARP for directions, coffee, cocoa, and donuts before we head out in teams to tackle and take down some unwelcome visitors in the park: English Holly, English Ivy, Laurel, and European Mountain Ash.

The Foundation will provide all tools and have gloves on hand (children sizes too), but if you’ve got a favorite pair, be sure to bring them.

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED so that we can prioritize and maximize our work plan for the morning and (very important), to ensure that we’ve got enough donuts!

Event is rain or shine!

SCOUT GROUPS: We’ve got plenty of fun and kid friendly work and would love to have you join us!

Please contact us at scouts@bridletrails.org if you would like to register a group.

OLDER SCOUTS: In conjunction with this National Public Lands Day Stewardship Event, we’re excited to expand the stewardship piece with a 3.5 mile self-led trail adventure in the afternoon focusing on the park’s forest ecosystem and threats that it faces. Trail discoveries will support GSA Eco Trekker badge work and BSA Invasive Species badge work.

If interested in this extended scout opportunity, please contact us at scouts@bridletrails.org so that we can prepare materials for your trail adventures!

Please note that this is not a drop-off event. Scouts must be accompanied by an adult or follow their scout/adult safety ratios, bring own water bottle and snacks, and earned official badges or achievements are not included.

As a thank you for assisting in the care of the park, we’ve got Bridle Trails Park Foundation 20th Anniversary t-shirts for participants!
