Ready. . .Set. . .Read! Read-a-thon Starts Wednesday

Lunch with Principal Mr. Steere! Book selected by librarian Ms. Lux! These are some of the exciting prizes students can win by participating in the Read-a-thon.

The Read-a-thon is the first major Cherry Crest PTSA fundraiser of the school year. Students set reading goals, raise donations, read from November 24th to 28th (Thanksgiving break), and win exciting prizes! The details:

Reflections Entries Due Wednesday, November 17th

Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity. Students of all grades and abilities may participate and explore the arts based on the 2021/22 theme:

“I will change the World by. . . .”

Entries will be collected virtually on Wednesday, November 17th, 2021. If your student is unable to submit work this way, contact us and we will arrange to collect the art work.

Free Online Chess Lessons

425 Kids Chess, a local group of high school and middle school students, offers free weekly group and 1-on-1 chess lessons for elementary school students online! We provide fun, interactive learning, with mentors who are dedicated to helping students grow.

Library News and Call for Library Volunteers

Are you looking to volunteer at Cherry Crest in-person? At home? Mrs. Lux (school librarian) has both opportunities available!

If you have NOT volunteered in the Cherry Crest library, a 30 minute training session is provided where you will learn policies, check-in/check-out computer system, etc.

And congratulations to the six grade-level winners of “The Great Pumpkin Book/Character” contest promoted during library class!

PTSA Seeks One More Person for Nominating Committee

The current Executive Committee of the PTSA seeks individuals to form a Nominating Committee. The to fill open Executive Committee positions for the 2022-2023 school year. This limited commitment takes place in January and involves attending 2-3 meetings.

An ideal Nominating Committee member is:

• Someone with connections to many different families within our school across grades.
• Comfortable reaching out to other parents for conversation.
• Able to meet with other members of the nominating committee (in person or via Microsoft Teams).

Classroom Volunteers Needed

Cherry Crest Teachers through the PTSA would like to ask any parents interested in volunteering in the classrooms to please fill  in the Classroom Volunteer Form.

Propose Parent Education Night Topics Today

Cherry Crest PTSA plans to host a virtual parent education night to support parents. Help us target the topic most relevant to you and your family by rating your interests by filling in this form.

Principal Chat on Friday 11/19 @ 8:30 am (rescheduled)

Cherry Crest families are invited to attend monthly virtual meetings hosted by Principal Dusty Steere and PTSA president Reetika Saxena. All chats are online via Microsoft Teams and include information from the principal as well as ample time for questions and comments.

This month we will be joined by our school counselor to discuss mental health supports at school and how to talk with your child about difficult topics such as suicide.
