Bellevue PTSA Council Advocacy: School Funding Crisis – Legislative Bills & Resources

Since 2020, state funding gaps have cost the Bellevue School District (BSD) $167.14 million, largely due to the McCleary decision and the education funding model that limits local levy funding. As a result, BSD is facing a financial crisis, prompting Dr. Aramaki to propose a $20 million spending reduction for the 2025-2026 school year. The funding shortfall significantly impacts Special Education, MSOC (Materials, Supplies & Operating Costs), and Transportation—areas where state funding does not meet BSD’s actual costs. Addressing this gap is the top legislative priority for WSPTA and Bellevue PTSA Council. To support advocacy efforts, the Bellevue PTSA Council, in collaboration with Issaquah, Mercer Island, and Lake Washington PTAs, provides regularly updated information and action items at waK12.org. Community members can quickly send letters to legislators, sign in support of relevant bills, and receive action alerts on key legislative issues.
