Childhood Anxiety Recording and Resources

At the Jan 11 PTSA General Meeting, Dr. Diana Bastien, a clinical psychologist, presented a talk on anxiety in children.

• A live recording of her session will be available until March 2, 2022.
• Dr. Bastien also provided a list of recommended books and workbooks on this topic.

After School Activities – Update

Cherry Crest offers many activities that take place on-site after school, and many of them have delayed their start date to Jan 24.

Please note that the NW Badminton Program has been cancelled for Winter because of low enrollment, but should resume in Spring.

Calling 5th Grade Parents – Memory Book Help!

Memory books are a long-standing Cherry Crest keepsake, given to each 5th grader as a memory of their time at Cherry Crest. We are looking for help with ideas of what to put in the book, help gathering content, and help putting the books together.

Curriculum Enhancement

The Curriculum Enhancement Team has been working with teachers to provide additional experiences to our students.  Thank you for your generous support to help make these events possible.
 
CE Spotlight of 2021
  • 1st grade students had a virtual visit from The Toy Maker where they learned about Light and Sound
  • 4th grade students had a virtual visit to the Pacific Science Center and learned about the “Night Sky”
  • 5th grade students enjoyed an Orienteering field trip with Eric Bone from Meridian Geographics and had a field trip right before the winter break to the MOHAI where they embarked on a scavenger hunt provided by the museum and checked out the special “Da Vinci” exhibit
 
Upcoming for 2022
  • 1st grade students will have a visit from Animal Encounter and meet some animals from Australia
  • 2nd grade students will have visits from The Toy Maker
  • 4th grade students will experience an “Oregon Trails Adventure” field trip
  • More to come…
Curriculum Enhancement (CE) works with teachers to bring in the best guest speakers, scientists, laboratory activities, performers, and musicians for enhanced learning opportunities. All are 100% funded by YOU, our parents; through generous donations to our fundraisers such as the Read-a-thon. Support PTSA fundraisers – they pay for these wonderful activities.

PTSA Meeting is Tuesday, Jan 11 (tonight) at 7:00pm

Please join us at our Cherry Crest PTSA General Membership meeting, Tuesday January 11th, via Microsoft Teams.

We invite all families and community members to participate (you don’t need to be a PTSA member to attend).

Our speaker this month is Diana Bastien, Clinical Psychologist with Outpatient Psychiatry & Behavioral Medicine at Seattle Children’s. Dr. Bastien will be talking about anxiety and how to help kids adjust socially and emotionally to in-person learning.

Parent and Caregiver Education Sessions

Diana Bastien, Clinical Psychologist at Seattle Children’s Hospital, will speak about anxiety at our virtual PTSA General Meeting tonight (Tuesday, January 11).

A speaker from Sound Discipline will join us to talk about Positive Discipline on Friday, February 4 at 8:30am.

Cherry Crest School Counselor, Mykela Fantone, will speak about the SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) Curriculum at our virtual PTSA General Meeting on Tuesday, March 8 at 7:00pm.
